Electro Technical Officer (ETO)

Course Overview

Electro Technical Officer (ETO) is a specialized maritime professional responsible for maintaining and managing all electrical, electronic, and automation systems onboard ships. ETOs handle ship power generation systems, automation controls, navigation equipment, communication systems, and safety electronics.

The course is approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) and follows international maritime training standards set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) under STCW regulations.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification
  • B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, or related fields
  • OR 3-year Diploma in Electrical/Electronics Engineering (with required experience as per institute norms)
  • Minimum 50% aggregate marks (may vary by institute)
  • Minimum 50% marks in English (10th or 12th standard)
Age Limit
  • Generally up to 35 years
  • Male Candidates:
    • General: up to 35 years
    • OBC (NCL): up to 38 years
    • SC/ST: up to 40 years
  • Female Candidates:
    • General: up to 37 years
    • OBC (NCL): up to 40 years
    • SC/ST: up to 42 years
Medical Fitness
  • Medically fit as per DG Shipping standards
  • Good eyesight (6/6 vision; no color blindness)
  • Physically fit for sea service
  • Approved medical certificate required
Entrance Requirements
  • Institute-level entrance test or interview
  • Sponsorship from a shipping company (in some cases)
